Radio Naturopath Episode 546: Luteal Uglies/PMS/PMDD, Plant Based Diet for Diabetes
This week, I found an article that discussed the LUTEAL UGLIES. That's when people who menstruate feel LOUSY the second half of their cycle. The article I read said that it's due to declining estrogen, but I think it's really due to estrogen dominance. I discuss how that happens and what you can do about it. Then, we talked about how plant-based diets help to stem the risk of diabetes more than low-carb diets! That's exciting news for people who don't want to eat a lot of animal protein. Having said that, I still believe that the right diet for YOU is the (insert your name here) diet. Naturopathic medicine is all about biochemical and general human individuality!
Radio Naturopath Episode 493: Why Your Pollen Allergies Are Worse; Getting Adequate Protein for Vegans
This week we talked about WHY we're all seeing those massive clouds of yellow blowing off trees. There is more pollen! Blame climate change, warmer temperatures, longer warm season, more light. Did you know that the wind blowing pollen is much less efficient for pollinating trees and plants then animal pollinators? Pollen in the air is much less likely to land on the specific plant for which it's intended. However, a bee or dragonfly or butterfly will hop from flower to flower, carrying pollen to other flowers within a species. SAVE THE POLLINATORS! We also talked about how people on a vegan diet may not be getting enough protein, and how they can improve that.
Radio Naturopath Episode 142: Vitamin E, Mixed Tocopherols and Tocotrienols: Help for Cardiovascular, Immunity, Hormones and More!
Did you know our friend, vitamin E, otherwise known as d-alpha tocopherol, and his buddies, gamma- and beta-tocopherol, and their friends the Tocotrienols, are just WONDERFUL? Great for fighting cancer, helping the immune system, regulating hormone function, and reducing cholesterol and improving cardivascular health! Such a great vitamin, it deserves its own show. It's mostly in VEGAN stuff! The best sources are sunflower seeds and almonds, but there's a lot in most nuts and seeds! We talk about the biochemistry of E too. https://5886e4ebcbc837d13f8e-
