And it’s the last Wednesday in September! Here’s what we discussed this week:
You may be sneezing more! Is it because of the low levels of ragweed, sagebrush and grass pollen out there? Or could it be good ol’ dust? Well, since the temps went down, you may have closed your windows and turned down the heat…and are blowing the dust in the vents into your home! A good idea to check the filters for your furnace, and still this will eventually clear. In the meantime, if you pulled out your warm comforter and blanket and it wasn’t stored in an airtight container, there could be dust mites…so off to the washer and dryer with ‘em! You’ll be surprised how much less you sneeze just from that. Neti-pots are great for clearing that dust out of your nose, so first thing in the morning, have a good clean, and you’ll be sneezing less!
Satisfries from Burger King? They have Less Fat and Calories. Important if you believe in Calories In Calories Out! The fries have a coating that makes them absorb less fat. You’re still eating starchy carbs with poor quality fat, stimulating Neuropeptide Y and therefore making your fat cells hungry for fat and you hungry for…well, everything! The fat in which they’re fried is high in polyunsaturates which break down in the heat, and now you have trans fats. This is still not a great choice. Much better to oven fry potatoes with some coconut oil drizzle and seasoning…or roast potatoes and add olive oil later!
AIDS rates are down. Still a very high rate of new infection in sub-Saharan Africa…but in most of the world, numbers are going down dramatically. More education, and more availability of anti-retrovirals.
Do you want to gobble up your adorable baby? That’s because the smell of babies releases dopamine in moms! It’s a great way to get you to want to be near and care for your baby, or any baby!
It’s hard to lose weight during menopause! You’ll likely hear me say this again. It’s because we lose testosterone and estrogen, which push hormone sensitive lipase, and progesterone, which supports thyroid function. How much of this needs to be dealth with..and how much of it is a survival mechanism? If many systems in your body are starting to decline, having extra fat gives you an extra source of fuel! Within reason, of course. Obesity generally not healthy. So eat as healthy a diet as possible; low starches and sugars, good clean protein, healthy fats, nonstarchy vegetables, nuts and seeds, less sweet fruits.
Are you still tired and not losing weight on your Synthroid/levothyroxine/levoxyl? Maybe you need T3 support! T4 gets converted to T3 in the liver, which is taxed by environmental toxins, sugar, alcohol, stress hormones. You can try natural thryoid, like Armour, which has T3; get synthetic T3 like liothyroine; sustained release T3; or supplements that help convert T4 to T3. Get a practitioner who gets it!
